Description
This folder primarily contains single correspondences from multiple individuals. Jan Bechyně was a Czech entomologist, worked as the assistant of the Zoological Section of the National Museum of Prague. His 1946 correspondence was a request to the American Entomological Society (AES) for information on Chrysomelidae and Coleoptera Phytophaga. Theodor Becker’s letter is in German while L'abbé P.A. Bégín’s letter is in French. Gustav Wilhelm Belfrage or G.W. Belfrage was an insect collector whose 1871 correspondence to E.T. Cresson details an exchange of Hymenoptera he made with the American Entomological Society (AES). Grace Belknap was an amateur naturalist for a Girl Scouts camp, who wrote a letter to the AES in 1979, requesting information about insects that lived in the vicinity of Muncie, Indiana. Howard P. Boyd, the president of the AES and editor of Entomological News, sent her a copy of the journal’s latest issue at the time but recommended that she seek other resources as he believed the issue sent was too scientific and lacking any of the information she wanted.
Hans Hermann Behr or H.H. Behr was a German American entomologist whose correspondence to the AES discusses his research of butterflies that he collected in California. Neophasia, a genus of pierid butterflies, is discussed frequently in the second half of his correspondence. Bechyně, Jan (1) 1946; Becker, Th. (Theodor) (1) 1911; Bégín, L'abbé P.A. (2) 1894-1895; Behr, Hans Hermann (6) 1871-1900; Belfrage, Gustav Wilhelm (1) 1871; Belknap, Grace (1) 1979.
