Description
This folder contains correspondence from multiple individuals. John Adams Comstock was the curator of the Division of Entomology at the Southwest Museum, known today as the Southwest Museum of the American Indian, in Los Angeles, California. His correspondence to the American Entomological Society (AES) consists of letters to Henry Skinner requesting and responding to feedback on his manuscripts about various butterflies, with Argynnis and Nymphalidae mentioned. In 1938, John Adams Comstock was elected as Corresponding Member of the AES.
John Henry Comstock was professor of Entomology at Cornell University. The first half of his correspondence discusses his attempts to locate several collections of insects, one consisting of Hymenoptera, that were loaned to different entomologists. The second half discusses the meeting of the Seventh International Zoological Congress in Boston in 1907. The Entomological Society of America was invited to send three members as delegates to the meeting, and Comstock asked Henry Skinner to provide him with three names to represent the AES. However, several members of the Executive Committee of the Entomological Society of America opposed affiliating with the Entomological Section of the International Zoological Congress.
