Description
This folder contains correspondence primarily from G.C. Davis, who worked as a consulting entomologist at the Michigan Agricultural College Experiment Station. Davis's correspondence largely discusses papers and monographs that were sent to the American Entomological Society (AES) to be published through Entomological News. Davis worked with a variety of insects, including but not limited to Bassus, Chironomidae, and Ichneumonidae. In 1905, he donated his collection of Hymenoptera to the AES.
In Charles Wendell David's correspondence as secretary-treasurer of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Library Councill, he invited the librarian of the AES, Ezra T. Cresson, Jr., to become a member of the newly formed council in 1941.
Pinkney A. Davies's 1922 letter to the AES discusses his collection of butterflies that were collected in Santiago de Veraguas, the provincial capital of Veraguas, Panama.
Walter Dannatt's correspondence contains four pictures of a butterfly named Papilio antimachus, commonly known as African giant swallowtail. His correspondence also contains lists of butterflies that he offered to exchange with the AES for exotic butterflies he did not have.
