Description
The correspondence in this folder contains racist terms that may be harmful or difficult to view and may reflect inaccurate, outdated, biased, offensive, and possibly violent views and opinions.
This folder contains correspondence from and directed to Victor Arthur Erick Daecke, who was also known as Von Adolf Erich Daecke. Much of his correspondence to members of the American Entomological Society (AES) features commentary about publications on different insects. Daecke was based in Harrisburg, and he largely collected Diptera, with Tephritidae and Pipunculidae mentioned. Many of his captured specimens were found in the Stony Creek Valley. His letters also showed interest in spiders, with a letter in 1911 to Henry Skinner asking for a new solution that was being used by the Academy of Natural Sciences to preserve spiders.
Many of Daeckeās letters also discuss personal matters such as visiting family in New York and inquiring about potential visits or trips with other entomologists.
In the months after his death in 1918, the AES sought to obtain his collection of insects from his family but were informed that they needed to negotiate with the Harrisburg Trust Co., who were the executors of his estate.
