This folder contains correspondence from W.C. Dukes. The correspondence spans 1907-1929 and primarily discusses the collection of Lepidoptera in Mobile, Alabama and Alabama in general. Insects mentioned include but are not limited to Thecla, Hesperiidae, Catocala, and Callosamia. His letters mention two unnamed tools used to aid his collection efforts; one tool is used to reach the hibernaculum of Callosamia securifera, commonly known as sweetbay silkmoths, while the other is used to dig into old rotten logs to collect hibernating larvae.
Dukes frequently wrote to Henry Skinner of the American Entomological Society (AES), who also specialized in Lepidoptera, requesting research materials related to Lepidoptera and proposing exchanges of specimens. Dukes also wrote to Skinner for assistance in locating collectors of Lepidoptera, who were willing to accept his collected specimens. Dukes was a member of the Charles Mohr Society of Natural History. Dukes, W.C. (38) 1907-1929.
